Just a short post this morning, but I feel now that it's best to write things down as I think of them.
Over the years, I've tried many different ways of easing the pain in my body, especially at night time. Somehow, I cope better in the day, but the nights are testing! I've been the butt of much laughter many times, as I wouldn't stay overnight anywhere unless I had a spare duvet to sleep on and my own pillow. Has anyone tried sleeping in a duvet sandwich? I'm sure someone has. Unfortunately, being sandwiched between two duvets is like being in an oven - it's warming, but soft on the muscles. We need both sometimes.
When I was first diagnosed, I would fall asleep with a heat pad across my shoulders, but would wake up in pain after it cooled down. I've tried many rubbing creams, oils, tens machine, etc., and I've read many books on coping with fibromyalgia, as I'm sure we all have.  We're advised to exercise and I know how difficult and painful it is, but for me, it's really helped. I confess that I have to force myself to do stretches in the morning, but I know that my body will benefit - I want to stay mobile for as long as I can.
Anyway, I am digressing. The last few nights have been hard, as I've tossed and turned in an effort to find a comfortable spot - sleep would be wonderful :-) My legs ache terribly and the only way I can get ease is to stretch them - and slowly! - but the worst pain is in my shoulders and arms making it difficult to lay. I do sleep with two pillows, because they lift my shoulder off the mattress (that's the plan), but I needed to rethink!   A few months ago, I began cutting up a duvet to make soft beds for my elderly cat and she loves them. Yesterday, I decided to cut a chunk of a duvet, small enough to make a small shoulder pad, and I placed it under my shoulder before I went to sleep. I began to feel it's warmth and support instantly and soon fell asleep. I slept for four hours!! And I am thankful :-)
It may be a fluke, or a one off, but I'll try it again tonight and keep my fingers crossed.
Have a 'well' day everyone.
Love and Light,
Tina
